Breakfast was a real highlight, a huge spread, and the terrace dining room has divine views. It does end early at 10 am, though, so don't plan on a lie in. We also found the pool a wonderfully peaceful place to relax. The private beach was choppy and cold for us at that time of year. There were tennis courts we didn't get to use, plus an outdoor movie theatre, though I never saw anything playing and wasn't sure how it worked. The setting and hotel grounds are beautiful, and the location is idyllic. All the staff were lovely, kind, and personable. We came for three nights in Castro during a week in Puglia, after one night near Polignano a Mare and three in Ostuni. A friend had recommended this hotel, and it was the one we were most excited about. Unfortunately, the service let us down in places. At check-in we were told someone would bring our bags up from the car, but after waiting more than an hour, we fetched them ourselves. We were also told to use a WhatsApp number to order food and drinks from the pool, maybe because the pool bar seemed closed. When I asked another staff member for the number, they seemed confused and said they'd never heard of it. Ordering from the pool became a whole mission: up all the steps, then waiting at the bar or mostly unstaffed reception, followed by over an hour and a half for lunch and a drink. Maybe it was because we visited slightly out of season, but I felt service should stay the same regardless. Our standard double was very, very basic. There was no WiFi, and reception gave us our own WiFi box when we asked. That was strange, and something we should've been told at check-in. The room could also use tea and coffee making facilities. There were just six hangers and no drawers for the rest of our clothes. With a lot of updating, the place could be a haven. Dinner seemed far too expensive for the small portions, in our opinion. We left hungry and ate at nearby restaurants for the rest of the trip. We do hope to return, though, and have a better experience with the service, perhaps in a better room.

The food, atmosphere, and thoughtful little touches all made for a fantastic holiday. Staff were kind and attentive, and we felt welcome from the moment we arrived, right at home each day. Friends recommended the hotel, and they were absolutely right. It's a special, peaceful, comfortable place to unwind and disconnect. We'd love to come back!

The views from the dining room stretch across blue sea and sky, and breakfast was a perfect start to each day, with homebaked goods and the most perfect eggs. The food was simple but delicious. The staff treated us like family and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We even practiced our Italian and learned some new words from them. We stayed in September 2024, and it was stunning. The pool is perched high on the cliff, overlooking the blue sea, and was a lovely spot to spend a relaxing day with a drink in hand. The views are expansive and absolutely beautiful. It's a cute family run place with amazing scenery and friendly people, just right for a stay in Castro. I hope to return one day. A special shout out to Alessandra, who helped with a package I needed shipped to me in the US. She went above and beyond to pack it securely and send it off.

The only thing I'd flag is the number of stairs and the steep site, which could be a concern for anyone with mobility issues. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience and good value. This is an understated, authentic, rustic gem in a spectacular setting, with excellent amenities including a pool, ocean and grottoes access, and a tennis court. It's walkable to Castro's charming Old Town, with the stunning Marina, other interesting landmarks, and towns close by. The staff, competently led by Alexandra, were responsive and proactive with any issues. Their restaurant and day trip recommendations were outstanding and gave us an authentic local experience.

The staff made a real impression on me, remembering the little things and going out of their way to help. We also had an easy arrival and departure thanks to early check-in and check-out. Hotel Piccolo Mondo has a lovely pool, tennis courts, and a private creek, and breakfast was included and delicious. It’s well placed for reaching famous beaches on both the Ionian and Adriatic coasts. I travel in luxury hotels often, and thought the service and value here were impressive. A hidden gem in South Puglia.
