City-In Hostel B&B

The rooms have a nice little balcony, and the patio area is cute. I might stay again for the location and price, but I’d bring earplugs because music played loudly past 2am and there were no noise restrictions. Cooking basics weren’t provided, the bathrooms smelled bad, and there was no hot water about half the time. The shared fridge is tiny for dozens of people. With better management, this could be a lovely place.

I liked the hostel and its location, which makes the bedbug bites especially unfortunate. I was bitten so badly that I can’t remember a worse time as an adult, and the bites can last two weeks. Medication doesn’t make it any less miserable. I wish I’d checked Google reviews before going, and I’d suggest looking up how to check a place before unpacking your suitcase.

I’ve stayed in plenty of mixed dorms, but this one didn’t feel safe. The men in my room were predatory, and I felt very unsafe as a woman. I told the receptionist and asked to change rooms, but she didn’t seem to care. I left for a hotel at 10pm after being there for only an hour. She cancelled my booking, so I can’t post a review on HostelWorld, and I wasn’t given a refund. It’s very sad that the receptionist was a young woman too. I’m still hoping HostelWorld will refund me, and I’d urge women not to stay here.

I left with bedbug bites, and when I told reception, they weren’t apologetic at all. I should have cut my losses and gone elsewhere when I no longer felt comfortable after my first encounter with the cleaning staff. I arrived at 12:30 pm on a hot day and politely asked to leave my bags and change out of my boots. The woman who let me in was rude and rushed me out. She let me leave my bags, but wouldn’t let me change my shoes. I’ve travelled for over a year and stayed and worked in many hostels, and being able to sort your things and get ready for the day is standard. The rudeness was unnecessary, and I later saw several reviews mentioning rude cleaning staff. When I came back at 2 pm for check-in, I asked to cancel and explained what had happened. They said it was just the cleaning staff and refused a refund because of hostel policy. The place also doesn’t look like the photos. The lounge couch was piled with blankets as if it were storage, and although the courtyard and location are decent, there’s no real atmosphere. I wish I’d paid the extra €5 for somewhere that treats its guests better.
