DOME

The breakfast comes to your room after you pick from a menu. It was okay, though we never received exactly what we ordered. I missed having a proper breakfast room where we could choose things ourselves or get another coffee. Our room had a round bed, which took some getting used to, and the thin doors let hallway sounds through so much that other guests felt as if they were in our room. The building is modern and renovated, with a friendly welcome and a quick introduction, but it doesn't really feel like a traditional hotel. It's centrally located on a main road, and the poor window insulation means traffic and scooters are loud at night, with lots of honking in the morning. You can just about glimpse the top of the dome from the balcony if you use a little imagination. For what you get, I found it far too expensive.

We only stayed one night. The location is handy, right in the city center, and the customer service and communication were excellent. The entrance is at level 0, while the rooms are on the second floor. The room was small, though the air conditioner worked well. There were no nightstands, and storage was limited for a stay longer than two nights. The bathroom also needed more hooks, shelves and storage. We were given two pillows but no blankets; when we asked for extra pillows, they brought them right away. It was adequate, but at $200 a night I expected a better room.

Nicola, the owner, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The DOME Hotel is a real Catania gem, with stylish, comfortable rooms and a great base for exploring the city. The quality was excellent for a very fair price. We'd highly recommend it.
