The staff were the best part of our stay, kind and respectful, and always ready to help. Eco Hostel is a great base for exploring Catania and the surrounding area, and the price-to-comfort ratio pleasantly surprised me. The shared space has board games, ping pong and a TV, plus there’s a kitchen with basic ingredients and a fridge for guests’ food. You also get private lockers, surprisingly roomy private bunks, and a breakfast of toast, spreads, coffee or tea, and cake. Everything was clean and tidy. We’d happily stay at Eco Hostel again if we return to Catania. 9.9/10, though the couches are a bit sticky.

The bathroom was the one part I didn’t enjoy, it felt a little moldy and musty. Otherwise, I’d come back. The common room has a great vibe, and there’s a fully equipped kitchen. My double bed was cozy. Four of the six beds have curtains, while the two without them have a window. Breakfast was really good: toast with a toaster, hummus, potato salad, little jam, butter and chocolate spread portions, soy milk and cornflakes. The staff were lovely 🌟

The staff were wonderful, welcoming and always willing to help. The women had good tips for getting around, places to eat and things to see nearby. The hostel itself was clean, cozy and nice. It’s in a quiet part of the city, yet the center and main attractions are only a few minutes away on foot. I recommend it!

Eco Hostel was a big part of why I enjoyed my time in Sicily. The staff were caring and made me feel at home, and I met some nice roommates. They gave helpful advice for visiting, the bedrooms were clean, and breakfast came with cake, juice and coffee. The shared area was great for meeting people, with darts, Netflix and table football when I was there. Lockers are available for more valuable things. It’s well placed for Catania’s center and for buses or trains to Taormina, Siracusa and Etna. Traveling alone, I’d definitely choose youth hostels again for the social experience.

I booked a bed with curtains two months ahead, but when I arrived, I was told I’d be given a “cloud bed” instead. The staff member said she couldn’t see which bed I’d originally booked, and still wouldn’t acknowledge that the bed assigned to me was different from my reservation. There weren’t any lockers left either. I ended up moving to another hotel and didn’t get a refund. Unfortunately, it was much like the other one-star reviews.
