We stayed six nights at Grimaldi terraces by Wonderful Italy in Catania, and it was a nightmare. We even got ill during and after the vacation, which we believe was due to all the dust, dirt, and mold. It ruined our trip, and we definitely won't return to wonderful italy. Out of the 489€ we paid for the whole stay, I tried to get some money back and received roughly 38€. Getting there went smoothly at first. After landing, I messaged Wonderful Italy to say we'd be on time for check-in and might arrive earlier if they could arrange it. The address was pleasantly close to the city center on foot, though the street was busy and loud, especially at night. We waited more than half an hour past the scheduled check-in time for the keys. A young guy then rushed us up the many narrow stairs and tried to explain things while I was catching my breath. He did carry my suitcase all the way up, which was extremely nice. Once inside, both my partner and I were visibly disappointed. The apartment looked very different from the online photos, was tiny, and seemed very run down from previous guests. There was black mold beside the shower, and everything felt and looked dirty. The terrace was the one part close to the pictures, with a very good view of Mount Etna and Catania city center. The guy also said the cleaning staff had forgotten the sheets, blankets, and pillows, and would have to come back. There were no towels either. I contacted wonderful italy right away for sheets and towels. They said, “He will be there at 9pm, more or less.” It was 4:45pm, and we'd planned to nap and shower before looking for dinner. While we waited, we searched upstairs, found some sheets, and made the bed ourselves, hoping they were clean. The guy who checked us in arrived with towels about 2,5 hours later. We got 5 towels for two people: 1 big one, 2 smaller ones for hair, and 2 even smaller ones for our faces. We assumed they'd be replaced every 2-3 days, but new towels and sheets cost extra. That was almost laughable, especially since we'd put the sheets on ourselves. We were lucky to have brought two beach towels from home. The bedding was another problem: the sheets smelled, and so did the pillows and the 1!!! blanket. We couldn't get a good night's sleep because of loud dogs barking outside and lots of mosquitos. The floor was so dirty that our white socks turned black after just 10 minutes walking around. The sunroof didn't work, the kitchen was tiny and wasn't equipped for cooking, and the air conditioning barely did anything for the upstairs bedroom.
