The location is fairly good and the apartment could have potential, but the condition and cleanliness were a complete letdown. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in, so we waited a few hours. When we finally got in, things were dirty throughout: the sofa, pillows, bed covers, walls and furniture, and the bathroom was in terrible shape. We ended up leaving for another place.

For a city break in Catania, the location is good. Our stay itself wasn’t: the bathroom especially was extremely dirty, and the place seemed long overdue for a deep clean and renovation. Getting in touch with the host was difficult. His English on the phone was very limited, communication mostly went one way, and he wanted to move the conversation to WhatsApp outside booking.com but never replied there. I don’t understand the 9.0 rating on booking.com; maybe the other apartments are in better condition, but ours wasn’t a good experience.

The room was clean and practical, but check-in was awkward because the host wasn’t there and the Italian instructions were hard to understand. He woke us up to collect payment, then cancelled our booking on the platform, presumably to avoid paying taxes. The location also wasn’t very good and didn’t match the spot shown on Google Maps. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The rooms were okay, but I wasn’t happy with the host.
