Villa dei Girasoli

We couldn't stay because we had someone with crutches, and getting in by the fire escape staircase didn't work for us. Breakfast is served at the bar, not in the room. We hadn't used or consumed anything, but leaving turned into a struggle. The owner wanted to charge the full amount for four days. After a long negotiation, she agreed to take one hundred euros out of the €360.00, and only after we found a policy requiring a 20% deposit for cancellations. She showed contempt and little interest in our needs. A really unpleasant experience. If I could, I wouldn't give it even one star. The street is remote and ugly, nowhere near the atmosphere of Via Etnea. Half the building faces the street, the rooms are dark, and only one has outside access and a little light. We booked two rooms, but the second bed was a sofa bed that blocked a dresser, and people in bed could be seen from the street.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. It's a nice B&B. Not every room has a shower, but there's a lovely whirlpool tub available.

Avoid this place. The bathroom is broken, and the downstairs rooms have awful damp smells. Worst of all, there are cockroaches. AVOID!

A central base for walking around the city. The room was serviced daily, everything was clean, and the staff were friendly. They pay great attention to detail.
