Villa Mater Hotel

Villa mater was clean and the staff were friendly. Our family room was large, and though the bathroom was a little small, we don't sleep in it. We couldn't think of a better area to explore from. It's outside the center, so it's quiet and there's no car fumes, but not far from via etnea, which we walked along to reach the center. Behind the hotel, up the small hill towards the hospital, there are nice local shops, plus a lidl and macdonalds. We preferred via italia over catania centre. The Borgo metro stop is a 5 minute walk, and you can get to the train station. toamina and syracuse are worth a visit.

The hotel assistants were polite, and the city location is good. Still, I don't recommend staying here. There are no carpets, the rooms are very small and rigid, and there's constant background noise, including a loud outside compressor. Hotel guests are loud too, and breakfast service is weak. The two stars say it all.

The staff were awesome and helpful, even though I barely speak Italian. Service was great, the rooms were comfortable, and everything was clean when we got back to our room. Internet was acceptable too.

Breakfast was good, but the room wasn't very clean. They turned off the air conditioning during the night, and the room became stuffy and very hot. When I told reception, they said I should phone them whenever it gets switched off so they could turn it on again. That makes no sense.
