Salvatore was great about sending clear instructions in advance, and getting in was simple. He even sent us a photo showing where we could leave our bikes. We had a really good night at Palazzo Samà and would have stayed longer, but it was booked. Our room was on the valley side, facing the old railway station, and we didn't hear traffic. The ceilings are impressively high, the double bed was comfortable, and the bathroom is modern and practical. The building looks plain from outside, but inside it feels like stepping into another time, with updates done in an old style. There's a shared room with tea and coffee, snacks, and a fridge stocked with fruit, drinks, and yogurts. It's mainly there to supplement breakfast, though we used it for tea in the evening. It isn't a kitchen for cooking or preparing food. Breakfast also includes coffee and a croissant at the bar next door, where Pietro, the owner, is expecting you. The property sits at the bottom of the city, so getting uphill isn't easy without a car. We managed by bike, but it was a 200m climb. There are two rooms on the valley side and two facing the road.

There's a bar next door and a few local shops, though you'll need to walk or drive for a full meal. Street parking is available outside. The room was pleasant and had modern facilities. Guests share a well-equipped common room with drinks and snacks, and half the rooms look across the valley. It's close to Catanzaro Sala station, which is currently closed [2025] but due to be incorporated into the rebuilt Metro system in future. The bus route is five minutes away, with service [1 an hour in February '25]. Walking to the city centre at the top of the hill takes about 20 minutes, or it's a 10 minute walk to the funicular railway.

The little extras were a lovely touch: fruit, yogurt, and biscuits in the kitchen, plus coffee and a croissant at the bar next door. It gave the stay a nice Italian feel. The house has real character as soon as you walk in. Everything was clean and well looked after, and it's clear Salvatore put a lot of care into it. He's thoughtful and friendly, and the room had what we needed for a comfortable rest. The neighborhood was very quiet.

There was a supermarket right next door and a bar that was open, so getting things was easy. It's a lovely place to stay, with pretty much everything you could think of. There was also a beautiful cat in the backyard who might become your friend. Bring some cat food for those lovely cats.
