Villa Giglio

Nice hotel.

I booked this reluctantly for August 30th to September 1st. Right after booking, I got a pile of messages and files listing the property rules and lots of paid extras on top of the reservation. Air conditioning alone was €52 per day!! I asked whether they had a fan, and they didn’t. I explained that I was traveling for work and wanted to bring my family along. My job exempts me from the tourist tax, just me, obviously. They asked me for a service order, but I’m absolutely not required to hand a confidential document to the first person who asks. In the end I let it go, since €4 wouldn’t change my life. The owner’s replies were more arrogant than anything I’ve run into, despite traveling often for work. I politely asked for a refund to avoid a dispute and a bad review. That was refused, and I was called a “mediocre and threatening person.” I’ll contact the website managers to try to stop this person advertising the facilities in what I consider a misleading way. Many users also say the place is dilapidated. The owner says there are video cameras all over to stop people who haven’t had breakfast from getting in without permission, like Big Brother. I strongly advise people not to go there.

The staff were friendly and helpful, which was a real plus. The room and kitchen area were comfortable and clean, and the adjoining outdoor garden was too. It’s in a quiet spot on the northern shore, with natural scenery all around.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt I had to this time. The room was clean and simple, and the linens and towels were changed every three days. There were signs all over the property explaining the rules, but that was all acceptable. The self-service breakfast was the real problem, especially since we were the only guests. We opened the fridge and found two cartons of milk already open, with no idea how long they’d been there. Then I went to make chamomile tea and found about two inches of rotten, smelly water inside the electric kettle. I switched it back on and left a note warning people. I hope the owner takes more care in future.
