Hotel Metropol

The room was extremely small, though that mattered less since we spent most of the day out. What made this stay so disappointing was how we were treated. I was there with my daughter after booking through an agency, and from the start the staff seemed warm and attentive with regular guests but cold and distant with us, as if we were invisible. I felt our requests were a nuisance. My only real request was to avoid garlic because I'm allergic. The food was a major problem. The description promised a savory breakfast and a daily choice of meat or fish. I only eat eggs in the morning and don't eat cured meats or cheese, so for five days I mostly had yogurt because I didn't know eggs could be requested. Hard-boiled eggs appeared on the buffet once, and only near the end did I learn I could ask for them. Nothing explained this. Breakfast ran until 10:00 a.m., but by 9:00 many things, including bread, had run out and were replaced only after I pointed it out. Meals were worse. Some dishes were far too salty, some orders came wrong or burned, including a grilled steak that was dry and charred. Other things we'd ordered the day before never arrived, like mackerel and fish in an almond crust. One evening, when my chosen dish wasn't available, they gave me ham and two pieces of cheese instead. The ham was cut so thick it was unappealing. For my young daughter, who eats very little, I asked for simple pasta or pasta with meat sauce, like other parents did. After a few days we gave up full board and switched to breakfast only, eating lunch and dinner elsewhere because the food was poor in quality and variety. I felt the treatment toward new guests was unprofessional and discriminatory. It was one of the worst hotels I've stayed in for years. I'm still waiting for a refund for the unused full-board days, despite asking the agency I booked through several times. A very disappointing experience.
