Hotel Vienna

The location is great, and the rooms are simple.

The strategic location is the only real positive here. They call it a 4-star hotel, but it’s actually a 3-star, with little to justify four stars. The room service is almost pushy, and the sheets and towels are always dirty. The receptionist is unprofessional and sleeps on the job, though the morning receptionist is friendly and professional. The waiters are usually friendly and polite. The food is decent overall, but the drinks leave a lot to be desired.

Rosy and Marco welcomed my family and me warmly, always kind and smiling, and we had a wonderful holiday. The location is right by the sea and in the heart of the city center. The chef, Michela, is especially sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable about gluten-free and intolerant dishes. The food is excellent, and all the staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it.

The location was good, and I did enjoy meeting and making friends with other guests. Beyond that, the only 4-star part was the price. A few staff members were good: Daniel at reception was polite, kind, and always at his post. Michela, the cook, was kind, available, and smiling, as was the boy handling desserts. Francesco, the waiter, was always rushing around. The rest was hard to overlook. Andrea seemed completely unsuited to reception, often wandering around or sitting on the entrance sofa on his phone or asleep. Mr. Marco and Ms. Rosy scolded staff in front of customers, and the waiters were often annoyed and sulky. The website offered three breakfast time slots, but in practice there was just 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A couple of times we arrived to find no croissant trays because they weren’t ready. The apple pie and pancakes were delicious. Lunch and dinner had two choices, one meat and one fish, though you could request something else. Food we didn’t eat was served differently at later meals. Our room was fairly spacious, but the wardrobe was broken, with one door stuck and unable to slide. The TV was dated and missing some channels. The air conditioning had to be switched on or off at the electrical panel. Street facing rooms were very noisy, and with the window open it could stay noisy until 6:00 a.m. The website mentioned a minibar, but you had to reserve one or it wasn’t provided. The beds and pillows were VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. The bathroom had two sinks, which was a plus, but the toilet behind the door was awkward. The shower and its silicone were very old and worn. After two showers the water was cold, and it took several minutes of running it before it got hot again. On arrival day, no water came out of the shower at all. We were told it was because of “the old pipes in Cattolica's water supply,” though that had never happened during all our years staying in Cattolica. ROOM CLEANLINESS LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED. It was almost nonexistent. We also paid for the special guest package, but it wasn’t worth it: we only got the beach bag two days before leaving, no newspaper on arrival or departure days, and no beach towels. With the pet package, neither the bowls nor the toy arrived.
