I come back every year. As long as Hotel “Laura” is still here, I’ll keep returning, because I know I’ll be expected and greeted so warmly. And those Beatrice-like eyes are reason enough for the trip.

The breakfast was included each day and had a nice range of things, from croissants, crepes and cereal to bread rolls, cold cuts and sweet spreads. I rented one of the sturdy bikes for €10 for the full day and rode it to the ferry to Venice. I spent a week at Hotel Laura and had a great time. My room had a double bed, Aircon and an ensuite bathroom, and was cleaned properly every day. The staff were friendly and accommodating about a few special requests. If I’m back in the area, this hotel will be on my list again.

The breakfast was okay, but the bed was awful, and the shower flooded the whole bathroom. There wasn’t anything there to help sweep the water toward the drain. €187 for one night? Never again. Don’t be fooled by the pictures.

We booked three nights but only stayed long enough to see the room. The shower barely deserves the name, it was basically a curtain over the WC. We couldn’t add breakfast because we’d mentioned it too late, so apparently we would have needed to pay separately each morning. The receptionist was incredibly unfriendly. She insisted the city tax had to be paid in cash, even though we had no cash and had said in our reservation that we’d pay by card. She started explaining what 1 euro coins look like, as if that would help. It was already 6 PM, and since the nearest ATM was a long way off by bus, she said we could pay in the morning. She had to call her boss for every bit of information, saying her job was only check-ins and check-outs. During our 20 minutes or so there, she called at least five times. She also had to call the boss to ask how to cancel the reservation. Afterward, she still couldn’t tell us whether the refund would be full or partial and insisted we call the boss in the morning, so she wouldn’t have to call again.

We left after 15 minutes, following a six-hour trip to get there. The receptionist came across as cold and couldn’t say anything without the boss’s approval, but the boss was only available in the mornings. The city tax was the only thing she talked about, and she insisted on cash. There was no mention of cash-only payment in the booking, and the two hotels we’d stayed at before both took cards. She said the ATM was about 30 minutes away by bus and that we had to bring the money in the morning. I said I’d bring it in the afternoon so I wouldn’t lose my day to bus trips, but she wouldn’t budge. Their tax arrangements aren’t my problem. It was FOUR EUROS, and there was no humanity in how they handled it. We told her more than once that we only had a card and no cash, and she clearly understood. Still, she started explaining what a euro looks like. That’s below any hospitality I’ve experienced. Treating us like money machines instead of people says a lot about the staff. The shower was just a hose above the sink, which I hadn’t seen mentioned in the booking. This is an edit because Hotel Laura staff seem to have trouble understanding my review, and I can’t reply to them. It wasn’t about the money, it was about their lack of empathy. They could criticize me over not having 4 euros in cash, and I can criticize them for letting that turn their whole operation upside down, apparently. Other guests, look at how Hotel Laura responds to negative reviews. I’d call it bullying, and it seems intended to scare people off from posting them. Edit 2: Hahahaha, they’ve edited their response twice now. One version had grammar mistakes, and both had lies. If they think I left fake reviews, they’re way off. Anyone with half a brain cell can see they’re trying to bully me and other negative reviewers into silence. I’m not scared of a Google translate capable 1-star hotel owner. Good day!
