B&B Ma & Mi Cefalu Palermo Sicily

Breakfast was the one good part of our stay. It was sweet and delicious, and I appreciated the effort behind it. Otherwise, the experience was very disappointing, and I wouldn’t stay here again. The hosts’ handling of laundry felt unhygienic: towels and sheets were apparently washed in their private machine at just 30 degrees. Yet they complained about small marks, like a little mascara on a towel, and demanded extra payment to replace or “deep clean” it. Being confronted so rudely and arrogantly over something minor felt awful as a paying guest. The atmosphere wasn’t welcoming either. The host was unfriendly, wouldn’t let us explain our side, and made us feel like a burden instead of valued guests. I gave one star because of the breakfast.

I booked two prepaid nights, but the following day the hotel charged me twice for the full amount. They only responded after I complained, saying it was a mistake and that the improper charge would be refunded. When I then asked to cancel the whole stay and get back both amounts I had paid, Mirko, the owner, said he would refund only the mistaken charge and nothing else. He insulted and threatened me for requesting a refund and compensation, saying cancellations aren’t free and I owed the full amount. It’s been 12 days and I still haven’t received even the refund for the erroneous charge. I ended up losing almost $800. This was the worst hotel and person I’ve dealt with. They don’t know how to treat people. Please listen to me and don’t book here if you don’t want to lose your money.

We got no help with our luggage, not even an offer to carry it to the room. The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful throughout our stay, and the place was thoroughly disappointing. We asked for a late checkout and offered to pay extra, but they refused arrogantly. After checkout they wouldn’t let us leave our bags in reception either, so we had to sort it out ourselves. The cleanliness was poor and the rooms tiny. With that attitude and disregard for customer service, Mi & Ma Bed is somewhere I’d never recommend. Avoid it if you want a pleasant stay.

A cosy place for a short visit, and I’d happily return. The hosts were very friendly, and there’s a large terrace overlooking Cefalú. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the main sights, then around 20 minutes back uphill, though the climb is manageable. Free parking right by the accommodation is a big help, since parking in the center is difficult and usually paid. Thanks!
