My mom is still too upset to talk about our awful stay, so I’m writing this for her. We spent three nights here, the worst three nights of my life. After my mom found it on a booking app and saw the good reviews, I started wondering if the owner had written them herself. We couldn’t find the place, and after hauling all our luggage uphill from the train station, we kept calling because we thought we might be in the wrong spot. Nobody came. Eventually the owner appeared, looking annoyed, and led us upstairs to a very dark apartment. There was one small bed in the bedroom, even though my mom had booked two. I could share with her, so we managed. Then the owner kept saying “city tax,” and we realized she wanted extra payment for it. My mom didn’t have enough cash, and when we said we needed to go to a bank, the owner just looked even angrier. It was so hot in the room that my mom asked about air conditioning, but the woman just tossed us a fan as if that would fix it. She was incredibly rude. I felt like she looked at us as if we were trash, and I still don’t know if it was racism or if something was wrong with her. Maybe she shouldn’t run a hotel if she doesn’t like foreigners. The room stayed unbearably hot all three nights, and we couldn’t sleep. It was far from town, and we didn’t feel like walking anywhere, but the room was so hot, small, and uncomfortable that we couldn’t stand staying in it either. I wanted to puke. We couldn’t wait to leave. My mom cried the whole time and says she’ll never come back to Cefalu, which is sad because I liked it. I wish we could have stayed somewhere nicer.
