Hotel Villa Belvedere

We’ve stayed here twice in the past year, and it’s been a very good-value base for working. The rooms are a comfortable size, very clean, and had everything we needed. WiFi was strong all around the grounds. Staff are friendly, polite, helpful, and speak very good English. There’s lots of space to lounge inside and out, plus a great pool and secure parking. Walking back from the beach means a short uphill stretch, but the hotel runs a minibus for a couple of euros if you’d rather not walk it. Breakfast is continental with lots of options. There’s no proper restaurant, though the bar meals are enough to get you through.

The cleaning was great, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The pool was good enough, and the worn gym still works for a light workout. But the rooms are tired, with hard beds and only a few places to plug in devices. It’s on a hill with a bit of a view, and it’s expensive for a place that feels like a cheap hostel. Breakfast was a letdown: mostly sweets, like dry pies and cheap muffins, with only boiled eggs and no scrambled ones. The coffee machines broke several times. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The walk from the town is about a kilometer, and the last few hundred metres are a brutal uphill climb. The hotel sits among suburban apartment blocks, and getting there by following Google Maps sent us to the other side of town. We had a hard walk in the heat before finding the actual place. Breakfast was okay, but it was all shut down by 10:05, including the coffee machine. Pool towels cost €2 each and have to stay in the pool area, so they add several euros a day. The pasta by the pool is okay for €6, and the mushroom one is the best.

The best things were the lovely terrace, nice bar, clean pool, helpful staff, working air conditioning and shower, daily room service, and a gym that worked. But there’s no fridge, and in summer that’s a real problem. You can’t make the air conditioning colder, there was some mold in the shower, and the pool shuts at 19:00. There’s no restaurant for dinner, and the gym was a bit dirty and had no air conditioning. The walls are very thin. I could hear loud talkers, babies, people on the roof, and dogs barking outside. I struggled to sleep every night, so I wouldn’t recommend it for light sleepers.
