Villa Totò Resort

The staff were genuinely lovely and welcoming, and that was the strongest part of our stay. We gave Villa Toto four stars because a few things were disappointing and, taken together, they affected the experience. Getting back from Cefalu at night was the main hassle. The walk down to the old town was fairly easy, but coming back meant a very steep hill on an unlit road. The hotel's ride service only runs at certain times and ends after 7 pm, so we generally needed a taxi at night. Even finding one could be difficult after 10 pm. I'm active, enjoy exercise, and like walking, so this wasn't just a dislike of walking. Some extra charges also caught us off guard. During the room and property tour, the minibar water was described in a way that made us think it was included, but we were charged for it each day. The first bottle tasted distinctly like sink water, so it seemed possible it had been refilled and chilled before being charged as a new bottle. At the pool, I had to ask for a towel, then found out towels cost $6 each. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The staff did make fresh coffee, which was nice, but bees swarmed the outdoor seating as soon as we sat down each morning, so we had to eat inside or in our room. Maybe that's a new issue, but it made breakfast outside impossible. These are mostly small issues on their own, and hopefully the property can improve them, but I wouldn't recommend it to others.

The staff were the highlight, so warm, friendly, and accommodating. The pool area was peaceful, and we often had it to ourselves. The setting is beautiful, and our stay felt relaxing. The rooms were tastefully decorated and very clean. Town is about a 10-minute walk downhill. We took a taxi back after dinner each night because the return route is very steep and poorly lit and paved. Breakfast was included, with a decent selection of cold items. There were hot choices like eggs, but they had been sitting in the warmer for a while and didn't look very appealing. Freshly cooked eggs might make breakfast better. In the room, a full-length mirror, towel hooks, and a shelf under the bathroom sink would be useful additions. We'd highly recommend staying at Villa Toto.

The concierge made a great first impression, helping us with advice and bookings. Our room was simple and pleasant, easy to keep cool, and quiet from outside noise. Town is a short 10-minute walk away, though it's steep and there are no pavements. We walked it every day, and there's also a free mini shuttle if needed.

What made Villa Toto feel special was our host, JP. He was so warm, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and made us feel at home. The rooms were beautiful, everything was spotless and clearly looked after, and the pool was just right for relaxing. The location was peaceful and picturesque. It felt like more than just a hotel, and we can't recommend it enough. We're already thinking about coming back.
