Hotel Pineta

The owners keep the pine garden in lovely shape, though it’s smaller than the hotel’s name might lead you to expect. Parking for guests is included, but it’s outdoors with no cover if the weather turns. We asked for extra pillows, ideally in different heights and softnesses, and they brought us a couple. The rooms are plentiful in this classic, recently renovated family-run hotel, which usually opens around the last week of July. The garden also works well for parties and celebrations. Breakfast leaned heavily toward sweets, with limited choice, but everything we tried was local and high quality. I didn’t get to try the restaurant.

We spent New Year’s Eve at Hotel Pineta and had a lovely stay. The bathroom was a highlight, all finished in pink stone, and the shower had room for two. Our room was spacious and welcoming. Breakfast offered plenty of sweet and savory choices, though the products themselves could have been better.

The food was good, and the staff were friendly and quick to help. Our modern, spacious room had some lovely unusual touches. There were a few snags at first, but they sorted them out fast. I’d come back.

We stayed August 18-23, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. The rooms were clean and recently renovated, but that was about the only upside. We were told just the day before arrival that the air conditioning wasn’t working, with no idea when it might be fixed. There was no AC in the rooms or shared spaces, and all we had in our room was a table fan. Breakfast and dinner were in an attic dining room reached by a flight of stairs. We explained that an elderly person in our party used a cane and asked to eat downstairs, where the outside ramps made access easier. They refused, saying only restaurant guests could use those tables, not half-board guests. That rule was enforced even with an obvious mobility need. The attic was hot too, with no air conditioning. There were no vegetarian choices on the half-board menu. When we asked about legumes for our vegetarian son, they offered chickpea hummus, then tried to charge us for it. Breakfast was poor and very low quality. The cappuccino came only from a vending machine and tasted chemical, as did the juices. There were just a few pieces of each item, the eggs and bacon weren’t fresh, the selection was limited, and refills came in tiny amounts. We politely asked for proper cappuccinos from the bar counter, but those were charged separately. From the second day on, even though we’d already paid for half-board, we chose to have breakfast across the street at a great pastry shop and pizzeria with delightful staff.
