I felt relaxed and comfortable here. It’s laid back and welcoming, and the service was very pleasant. The food was genuinely interesting too. It’s a fully vegan place, and although I’m not vegan, I was glad to give it a try. I’d recommend it as a quiet retreat for a young vegan couple. Certaldo Alto and Tuscany generally have that same easygoing welcome as well. ☺️

We booked ahead since we were in Certaldo on a Monday, and ended up as the only diners. The co-owner’s service was impeccable, right down to bringing me a stool for my purse. Each course was a delight, and the food was incredible. It’s vegan fine dining in a medieval fortified village, with a stunning setting and panoramic countryside views shared only with Il Castello in Certaldo Alto. The evening was one of my best meals ever: excellent wine and a cocktail, finally a non-alcoholic beer too, soft bossa nova, and even sounds from an orchestra rehearsing in the nearby church. If I’m back in Certaldo, I’d eat here again in a heartbeat.

This is just how I pictured Tuscany: breathtaking views and wonderfully authentic buildings. Our hosts were a genuinely kind, welcoming couple. The kitchen was amazing, with resourceful, delicious vegetarian dishes. If you’re staying in Certaldo, I’d definitely recommend making a reservation here.

Our dream vegan wedding feast was at Osteria del Vicario, and Erik and Eleonora made the day feel special and stress free. The food was colourful, full of flavour, and made with fresh seasonal ingredients. We couldn’t have asked for a tastier showcase of vegan cooking. With those breathtaking terrace views over the Tuscan countryside, the whole evening felt like a dream.

Even if you aren’t staying overnight, I can absolutely recommend coming for dinner. The surprise menu had mind-blowing flavours, and my vegan and non-vegan friends were equally impressed. The view of Tuscany was spectacular too. Hats off to the lovely chef and host.
