Relais Villa Tavolese

The view makes up for how quiet the location is, and having a car means you can visit other places. The rooms are spacious, the people are very friendly, and the breakfast and pool are okay. A nice place to spend the night.

August 2016: We ended up staying five nights at the Tavolese in Marcialla, added an extra night, and wished we could've stayed longer. We had large, comfortable, clean rooms with a sitting room, neatly furnished. Every window looked out over the Tuscan vineyards, beautiful in the sunshine and magical one misty morning as we watched fine rain move across the valley. Breakfast was plentiful, and we helped ourselves to everything. There were never more than three groups of guests while we were there, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The enormous pool has shade. The staff were friendly and helpful, and enjoyed chatting with us in English to improve theirs. We didn't speak Italian. Marcialla is a quaint hilltop village with a very good restaurant. In the square there's also a big market, a giant pizza oven and a beer kiosk. All summer, the town gathers there each evening to eat together. The welcome was warm, even when our conversations in pigeon English weren't perfect. The little church in the square was a peaceful place to worship. There's an immaculately clean laundromat in the next village. After weeks on the road, it was brilliant to stop, relax or explore the area. It isn't a five-star hotel, but I'd give it ten stars. Thanks, Gina and team.

For what we paid, this was a very good hotel. The view was lovely, the room was clean and tidy, and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast got a little repetitive, but it was okay.

The staff were wonderfully helpful, breakfast was great, and both the location and rooms were lovely.
