Agriturismo San Giovanni

The hosts made us feel very welcome and did what they could to make our stay enjoyable. They didn't speak English, but when we needed help translating, they called their son. We loved waking up, making coffee, and sitting outside to watch the countryside. September was a lovely time to enjoy the views and use the property as a base for exploring Tuscany. The apartment was spacious, clean, and renovated, with modern comforts like a dishwasher. The WiFi wasn't great, though we got by using our mobile connection. Getting up to the property means a long, steep, unpaved drive, but it didn't bother me much with a rental car. I wouldn't suggest taking a personal luxury car up there, though that applies to much of Tuscany. Make room in your suitcase for the olive oil. We took home two canisters and a bottle of wine. I'd definitely recommend the property.

Even after seeing Siena and Pisa, nowhere gave us as much of a feel for the real region as "Agriturismo San Giovanni". It’s tucked into the Tuscan hills, away from the noise, among olive trees, and has that calm, authentic feel. My first time in Tuscany and my wife's ninth, and this was the place that stayed with us. Giovanni was one of the most generous, cheerful, and friendly people we've met. He makes delicious Grappa, Vin Santo, red wine, virgin olive oil, and prosciutto, and has eggs, figs, grapes, lemons, pomegranates, basils, tomatos, and plenty more to share. There was even a special gift waiting in the kitchen on arrival. The apartment we rented was fully equipped, with all the advantages you'd expect. I hope we can return one day to relax by the pool facing the olive grove and listen to the cicadas. When you miss your host after leaving, you know it was a special time together.

We came as cyclists and the location worked really well for our bike tours. The property has been renovated and feels welcoming, clean, and modern, with a fantastic pool. The owners were kind, attentive, and thoughtful about every detail. Breakfast was spectacular: fresh local products and homemade cakes, all delicious. I highly recommend trying it.

Giovanni is very attentive, and there’s good wine, grappa, fruit from the trees, and vegetables from the garden to enjoy. I stayed in the Glicine apartment, facing the pool, with a private gazebo right beside it. It was lovely to eat outside with that unique view and all that peace and quiet. The house is gorgeous, welcoming, fully equipped, and extremely clean. A charming place that's clearly well maintained. Highly recommended!
