We bought a Smartbox and chose to visit Chianciano with another couple. The hotel isn't new, but we had a really good time. The owner was kind and helpful, and the rest of the staff were too. The included dinner and breakfast were generous, and the food was good.

The staff were incredibly kind, but my partner and I used a “savor your stay” package and found the hotel badly run-down. Calling it four stars is a lie. It's a historic place that's been open since 1927, but the last renovation looks to have been in the 1970s. The rooms aren't suitable: black mold covered the bathrooms, the dirty carpet had holes patched with pieces of other rugs, and the room doors were covered in tissue paper. I'd also complain about the kitchen. We've never stayed somewhere so neglected. The four-star rating is even displayed at the entrance, so our expectations were high.

I've been staying at Hotel Alba for years. It's family-run and has a peaceful, serene feel, making it a good choice for a relaxing break in the beautiful Cinta Senese. From here it's easy to take a lovely walk to the city center and the spas. Rooms with bathrooms, affordable prices, private parking, a big garden and breakfast included all make it worth considering.

We only stayed a few days ago. The place could use some upkeep, but our room was clean and the food was genuinely excellent. The pici all'aglione were superb, and the prices were reasonable too.
