Hotel Villa Edelweiss

The price was budget-friendly, and there was heating and a great restaurant. It had all I needed.

A nice little hotel...

Our room had a huge terrace looking out over Lake Trasimeno, especially lovely when there wasn't any haze. The hotel is dated, but it's kept up well, and it's in a convenient spot in Chianciano, about 1 km from the spa and historic center. We could easily walk around town from there. My girlfriend and I spent four days there on a short Val d'Orcia vacation. The room wasn't very large, but it was comfortable and had all the amenities I expect at a three-star hotel. Breakfast was a real treat, with so much food that some mornings I almost needed an early lunch afterward. The managers and staff were courteous and professional throughout our short stay. They were always available to handle our requests and give us useful information for our excursions. It was a brief but very pleasant experience, and I'd likely stay again. Breakfast was superb. The automatic machine made cappuccino better than some bars, and the croissants were good, though a bit too brown. When I asked what was inside them, the staff didn't know, so I tried both, the small apricot one and the large red berry one. We booked through Smartbox because we needed convenient access to Montepulciano. They were the only hotel to accept our reservation during high season, after other places had turned us down even though we'd successfully booked. The owners were thoughtful and kind. They had a crib ready for our baby, better than we would've managed ourselves, and put an extra single bed in the room alongside the double without us asking. It was handy for our bags. The panoramic terrace was bigger than the room, and we had a homemade dinner there by moonlight. The hotel is from the '70s, as other guests have said, but everything worked. The Daikin air conditioning was quiet and powerful. The bathroom was a little small. Cleanliness was excellent, everything was perfect. Some details get overlooked, like the soft handle in the shower. Little things like that don't bother me, but on a budget, you can't expect too much. Despite the many negative reviews, we had a good time and I recommend it, as long as you remember it's not a luxury hotel ;-)
