The staff were friendly, the rooms clean, and the mattress and pillows were good, though everything felt old. The hotel is right in the city center, but it's an old property and looks its age inside. The shower and toilet were so small that someone built like me could barely manage a bath. Breakfast was disappointing, despite the good reviews I'd read. It wasn't properly available while we were there. The coffee was good, but the food selection and quality were very poor, and the juice was really bad. The butter was hard to find, and the eggs were raw, not boiled, fried, or otherwise cooked. You had to boil them yourself, but other guests would take them before you could. There was one cheese, one prosciutto, and a few pieces of salami. This didn't feel like a typical Italian breakfast.

It’s easy to get around from this small family hotel, with the bus and train stations close by for trips toward Pescara or the mountains. The staff are so friendly and ready to help at every turn, which made our stay in Chieti really comfortable. Great value, too.

Abruzzo makes a great starting point for an Italian holiday, with Rome to the west and the Adriatic coast to the east. The region has three national parks, nature reserves, beaches and dunes, plus medieval and Renaissance towns among the Apennines and hills. I loved my four-night, five-day stay in 2010. The price was great, breakfast was good, and the iced tea was free and properly cold. It was well placed for Chieti, Pescara, L'Aquila, Teramo and Rome (Roma).
