Hotel Villa Il Patriarca

The place sits on a limestone base, with food storage areas and tunnels established during WWII. As far as I know, visitors can't go in to explore. They offer gourmet wine-pairing dinners, as well as wonderful pasta-making classes.

We only had one night at Il Patriarca in September 2024, and wished we'd booked longer. The place is beautiful inside and out, with meticulously kept grounds. We arrived pretty late, but the staff were accommodating and even upgraded our room. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and felt more like an “American” bathroom, if you've spent much time in Italy, you know what I mean. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and breakfast was included, with plenty to choose from and cappuccinos. We didn't manage to eat at the restaurant, though a couple we spoke with said their dinner was very good. The photos don't quite capture it, you have to see it for yourself. Thanks for the hospitality. We'd stay again if we get the chance to return to Italy.

We weren't staying at the hotel, but they arranged a wonderful truffle hunt with Luigi for us. His lovely, reliable dog helped us find a whole bag of truffles, and we even got to see her little puppies. It was a highlight of our trip. Thanks for being so welcoming. The restaurant was closed, but Chef Kat still made us the special truffle pasta, and it was divine.

We stayed five nights, and everything was fantastic: the property, our rooms, the food, and the wine list. The staff were especially great. Highly recommend it.
