JFK b & b

The apartment was clean, convenient and well looked after, with excellent parking and an easy check-in. The owner was kind and very helpful. It's in an excellent location, and I'd highly recommend it.

We chose this place so we could rest between layovers, but barely slept. All night we could hear a man shouting and swearing while playing video games, and his words came through clearly. There was also a strong cigarette smell in the bedroom, from the bed to the curtains, and in the shared room on the way to the bathroom. It kept drifting down from upstairs, where a staircase leads to the bedroom door. Disgusting. The private bathroom was outside our room, which hadn't been mentioned, and its glass door doesn't give full privacy. The TV didn't work. The late check-in fee would make sense if we didn't have to look for keys or disturb anyone. We just needed a couple hours' sleep before our flight, but it wasn't possible. The location is handy for Ciampino station and the bus to the airport. The Airlink between Ciampino APT and the station stops there. Mrs. Fabia and the bar staff were kind. The Italian breakfast at the bar was average, but still good. Check-in could be better organized and genuinely contactless. It's a shame, because the decor and location could make this a good accommodation option. Maybe we were unlucky given the earlier reviews.

The rooms were comfortable enough and clean, and the lady was very kind and helpful, especially when helping us work out how to get to the concert during the public transport strike. But getting there was a challenge. It's impossible to walk to the B&B, and even police officers strongly advised us not to try. If public transport is on strike, you'll have to hope a taxi is available. From Rome Termini, one costs about 32-35 euros. I'd suggest Uber. Some details in the Booking listing didn't match what was there. There was no flat-screen TV, though that didn't bother us since we never watch TV. We relied on mobile data because the Wi-Fi didn't work, and my Fastweb signal was very weak. Breakfast was supposed to be included at the Burger King across the street, but a service problem stopped us from getting it, so we just ate a plum cake. Otherwise, it was okay.

The second floor has a nice balcony, and the apartment is easy to reach from Ciampino Airport. It's about a 7-minute drive if you catch the bus stop at the right time, or a 5-minute walk. The apartment has no air conditioning, just fans, but even with the heat outside it wasn't too hot. It's a generally clean and nice two-story place. If you're on the ground floor, though, you have to cross the shared hallway to get to the bathroom, which is inconvenient. Breakfast is at the nearby Burger King, but only from 7 a.m., so we left before it was available. Check-in was difficult. We only got the instructions through WhatsApp, at least in our case, although we booked through Booking. Luckily we had internet, because there were no instructions sent in advance and we otherwise wouldn't have been able to get inside.
