Poggio del Sole

We stopped here for one night while heading to Salento. The farmhouse is tucked into the hills but conveniently only 10 km from the sea. It's run with warmth, friendliness, and professionalism, and the local food is excellent. Breakfast was excellent as well, with fresh croissants or delicious homemade cake.

My wife and daughter were the ones who stayed. They booked just an hour before arriving for one night, and the staff were very helpful. The restaurant was a lovely surprise: the regional dishes are presented with real care and are both refined and delicious. The gnocchi in a jar is one of the specialties, but everything they had was unusual and tasty. Even the panna cotta with absinthe, which I normally wouldn't choose, is well worth trying. It's a shame the place isn't near home, or I'd have added it to my address book. The room was average, and it lacked a step in front of the shower to keep water from getting everywhere, though maybe that was just an oversight. The location is handy for the highway, in a quiet area without traffic.

The owners are welcoming and kind. Breakfast came with excellent cakes and figs, and they also have gluten-free options. They make cakes and pasta themselves too. Set in the countryside, it's lovely to eat in the garden. The menu includes arrosticini, mixed grilled meat, fresh pasta, and plenty more. A great option for a short stop or for exploring the surrounding area.

Dinner was excellent, and the owners were friendly. A beautiful, peaceful place.
