Antica Trattoria

The food was amazing, and the chef was a great guy. Giorgia at reception and the bar was such a lovely person, even sitting with us to translate the menu 🙂 Everyone who owned or worked there made us feel welcome. This was the highlight of our motorcycle trip around Europe. The whole stay was spectacular, and we're grateful for it.

Getting to the hotel was a real headache. During July and August 2023, a festival had closed all of Centro Cles to vehicles. That's great for people on foot, but a problem for drivers. The hotel could mention it on its website or Booking.com. Navigation devices sent me round in circles instead of to the hotel. Juri was friendly and welcoming, and sorted it out after I walked to the hotel, ignoring the blocked streets. He showed me a spot for my motorbike in the backyard, then offered me a much appreciated beer after I'd ridden over 500km that day. That's the Italian way. Grazie! My single room was fine, very clean, air conditioned, and had a small balcony overlooking the backyard. The downside was that the backyard had been rented out for a guy's 50th birthday party. Italians know how to celebrate, and it went on until early morning. The breakfast was awful, even by Italian standards: croissants from the day before, no real bread, and no butter. I could go on. There was no staff around, just other guests who seemed confused. It was a pity, and the worst experience I've had in Italy. I couldn't check out until Juri arrived at about 08:10. Maybe he'd been at the party too?^^ I also ate at the restaurant, with mixed results. I had deer Carpaccio and pork cheeks. Maybe I just don't get the Carpaccio served on what looked like freshly washed salad, but aside from the sweet mirtello salsa, it was bland, short on salt, and didn't taste of much. A shame for the deer, though perhaps it was served too chilled. It's not to my taste. The cheeks were nicely braised, and the Jus wasn't bad, but again it needed more flavor and salt. The waiter was very committed, but couldn't tell me the name of the vino bianco della casa, which I really liked. “Chardonnay” was the wrong answer. Some training might help.^^ Three stars is a generous rating from me. Two would also be realistic given the situation.

The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful when we stayed on July 10, 2019. We had dinner there too, and Max was a wonderful, accommodating chef. Great food and friendly service. Great job, Alex and Yuri?

I spent one night here during a bike tour and got a very warm welcome. The host was fabulous, the night was comfortable, and breakfast came with a perfect espresso. Thanks for the hospitality, this is a great place to stay.
