Hotel Merloni

The room felt old, from the furniture and beds to the TV, and the shower was so small it was hard to move around. You can hear everything from the corridor and neighboring rooms, so it depends on having quiet, considerate people nearby. Still, I liked the atmosphere, the view, and the plants outside. It felt cosy.

My flight from Israel was cancelled because of the war and dangerous situation in the country, so I couldn’t make my May 10 to May 11 stay. I told the hotel on May 7 and explained everything ahead of time. They still refused to refund me or offer a voucher for another time. Given the circumstances, I find that extremely unfair and unreasonable. I also felt discriminated against because of my nationality. The hotel’s response was cold and dismissive, with no understanding or compassion. I’m very disappointed and strongly discourage others from booking here.

The amenities were decent, and the location works well if you have a car, but the staff were so inhospitable that we never felt welcome. They refused to give us a glass of ICE because we hadn’t bought the WATER bottle from them. Later, when I asked to borrow a bottle opener for five seconds to open a glass bottle of my drink, they refused again and sarcastically said they had one but wouldn’t give it to me because I hadn’t bought the drink there. At breakfast, staff hovered over us to watch how much we ate. I left a sandwich on my plate while taking a break to let the food digest, and the server rudely told me I wasn’t to take it up to my room, even though I was just sitting there and had no intention of taking anything. I don’t recommend this hotel unless you’re ready to be constantly berated in Italian. The staff refuse to speak English even though they all know it.

The rooms are getting old and the mattresses are firm, but everything works, the air conditioning is good, and the pool is very good. The staff are excellent. It’s a family-run place with a very professional feel. The chef is part of the great service, and Colombino takes very good care of people.
