Hotel Palazzo San Lorenzo & SPA

I canceled the booking, but now I have to find another hotel so close to the trip. I had told the hotel I was bringing a child and included the child's age when I booked. Two months later, only a month before we were due to travel, they told me children under 14 couldn't use the pool. They also said my husband and I would each have to pay €25 per day to use it. Seriously? I've never had to pay to use a swimming pool at a European hotel. Paying for parking makes sense to me, but the pool?

We had a great room and friendly staff, with good service. The outdoor bar and pool area were really nice. The pool was cold, but refreshing. And the location in the old medieval hill town is fantastic.

Our bedroom was spacious and stayed very clean during our visit. The hotel has a pool, spa, and private car park, and it's well placed for exploring Tuscany. Colle itself has several very good restaurants. My one suggestion is to change the hotel's dinner menu at least weekly, which might encourage more people to eat there. I'd readily recommend Palazzo San Lorenzo.

The reception team were good, and I had a really nice experience talking with them. The location worked well too, with restaurants, a medical shop, and a shopping market close by. Still, breakfast wasn't extensive, and the restaurant staff came across as rude. They never smiled and didn't seem to respond when we called for help, which happened on each of the three mornings, so it didn't feel like a one-off. One evening we asked about getting dinner sent to our room, and a staff member said they were very busy and it might not be possible, then sent us to the front desk. We had a good time otherwise. We also didn't see anyone around our age, about 35, during our three days there, and people seemed to stare at us like they'd never seen people before. Those are just my own positive and negative observations.
