Villa Soleil

The garden is really lovely, and the place seems suited to celebrations, weddings, or a one-night stop to sober up. But during a planned celebration, guests may be asked to leave for a night and come back afterward. Our stay had a rough start with a room intended for a disabled person, followed by one with broken AC. The windows have no mosquito screens, so fresh air means mosquitoes can get in. The fridge didn't work properly, and the shower cabin was too small, though the bed was okay. I'm still waiting for an invoice for my stay, too.

We came by car and only needed somewhere to sleep for two nights, so I can't say how it works for tourists without a car. The place itself is very beautiful, with friendly staff, nice common rooms, and parking. Our room was cozy, the bathroom had warm water, and breakfast was good. The bed made a bit of noise, but that was the only downside.

My room had lovely high ceilings and was beautiful, though sparsely furnished. The staff were friendly and flexible. I arrived late at night to an ice-cold room, but it had warmed up by the following day. If you're coming in the off season and won't have time to wait for it to heat up, it may be a good idea to ask for an extra blanket when you arrive.

The people were nice enough, but their welcome felt forced, and I got the sense I was creating work for them instead of being hosted by people who enjoy having guests. The spirit didn't feel as generous as I'd hoped. The setting itself is idyllic, in a sweet little town in the foothills of the Italian Alps, with lots of castelos nearby and a beautiful old church dedicated to mothers and children within walking distance. It's old enough to have been built before Columbus sailed. The lodge is a timeless old Italian Villa among beautiful trees, with a sweet pool. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and breakfast had a delicious assortment of baked treats and cheeses.
