The castle staff were helpful by email while we planned, and check-in on our own went smoothly. The historic building in gorgeous Arqua has loads of charm, which made the stay enjoyable. Still, it felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel. Our Olea kitchen was very basic, with an electric hot plate and only a few items, so I’m not sure we could have cooked a proper meal. We found three coffee pods for five nights, possibly left by the previous guest. There was a small ironing board but no iron, and no soap or bathroom products. The internet was unreliable enough that I often switched it off because my slow LTE connection was faster. AP has wonderful food, so cooking wasn’t a big concern, but a few extra touches would have helped.

The village itself is a dream, with lovely homes, a lively square, restaurants and views across the valleys. It’s a great base in northeastern Italy, and Venice is only a short train ride away, so it worked perfectly after long days of touring the region. The apartment was quiet in its little gated garden and felt almost new, with everything we needed. We slept so well on the comfortable mattress and liked having different pillows to choose from. The kitchen had beautiful cookware and serving dishes, and the tap water tasted great. July was very hot, but the air conditioning kept us comfortable. The owner, a Venice native, had plenty of tips, and he and his wife did all they could to make our stay special. We also appreciated the free Wi-Fi and the many guidebooks.

The old stone building is stunning, and our apartment inside it was spacious and beautifully furnished. We also had a nice view from the entrance. Casa Zorzi is in a lovely historic town and makes a great base for Venice, Garda and other places. Arrigo and his wife Nina were the real highlight, such extraordinary, welcoming hosts. Perfetto!
