Le Chalet d'Or

The staff were all kind, and the place was peaceful. The pizza tasted decent, though calling it a biscuit is just a fact, not a matter of taste, as a Neapolitan would say. Breakfast was the letdown. The brioches were dry and clearly not fresh, and I doubt your chef made them. I’d also seen them on the breakfast table the night before. The lemon cake was packaged and already open, and it had been covered and set out on the tables the previous evening. The waffles were dry and tasteless. The one good thing was the pizza bread used for sandwiches. I’m replying to the owner’s response here. It’s a nice hotel, but breakfast was disappointing, with brioches and cakes that weren’t fresh.

The rooms were clean, warm, and welcoming, and the property sits on a quiet side street. We stayed for two nights and ate at the on-site restaurant both evenings. The first night’s Southern-style pizza was excellent. The tourist set menu the next night was enjoyable too, with fresh food and generous portions. Breakfast had a good mix of sweet and savory choices.

We felt right at home and will definitely return. The nature around this beautiful place is like a fairytale, and it’s a dream spot if you’re looking for peace and quiet. We’re so glad we found it. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and breakfast was plentiful with something for every taste. The staff were incredibly kind and courteous, and they solve every problem. We were the only guests at dinner, with the lights off at the other tables. We later found out that dinner is only served for guests occasionally, which explains why there was no chef. The meal came with the SmartBox package, but it was disappointing, cold, and below par. Everyone had to reheat their food. The chalet seemed closed when we arrived for our overnight stay. All the lights were off, and at 10 degrees Celsius we were hoping for somewhere warm. The room and dining room were cold until we asked them to turn on the heat. The staff were kind but inexperienced, and the manager wasn’t there. There were electrical problems in the room, and the bathroom grab bar had been removed and was resting on the dresser. Environmental management was extremely poor. They couldn’t tell us what kind of sauna they had, and turning it on meant waiting 2 hours at a completely irrelevant cost, so we gave up. This chalet isn’t worthy of 3 stars, maybe 1. I don’t recommend it and wouldn’t stay there again. If these are SmartBox hotels, don’t buy a package or give one as a gift. It’s a waste of money. I don’t usually write reviews, but my negative experience felt important to share, at least in the hope of helping others avoid it.
