Hotel Marco's

Nice little balcony overlooking the lake, friendly staff, and a great location. Parking is secure but out of the way, and you need to book and pay for it in advance.

We came for a nearby wedding and thought this would be a nice place to stay. The location was nice and the room was tolerable, but the food was mediocre and customer service was horrible. Hospitable? No. I left a pair of jeans in the room. I booked through hotel.com and contacted the hotel that way. They found the jeans, but wouldn’t help send them back, even though I offered my credit card and to pay in advance. I wouldn’t expect them to cover the cost. Their only option was for me to arrange a courier pickup. I checked with three couriers; only one would give me a price, and even that was difficult. It came to a ridiculous $250.00 USD, the same price as the jeans. I practically begged the hotel to use its regular courier service with advance payment, but they refused. I also asked the desk to call a taxi for the wedding. The clerk said she was doing it, but didn’t tell me she wasn’t getting a response. She left us waiting nearly 30 minutes while we worried we’d miss the wedding or be very late. Only when I asked for an update did she say she hadn’t reached a taxi. We had to run out the door and make our way to the venue in the rain, in our long dresses. We missed the very beginning and looked like wet rats. Awful. Stay away.

The location is the hotel’s best feature, and the staff were very friendly. The shower pressure was good, and there’s a small balcony with a view that everyone can use. We could give it 3.5 stars, but it’s closer to three than four. The rooms are very cramped. We only stayed one night, which was manageable, but a longer stay would be stressful. It was pricey too, since we spent less per night in Bellagio. The bed and pillows were on the hard side. Paying extra for the room view didn’t feel worth it because the window was tiny and mostly blocked.

The lake view from our simple room was amazing, and the staff were friendly. We visited during a really busy weekend in Como, and Marco’S was one of the more affordable hotels near the shore. It’s right by the water and the funicolare, with lots of restaurants close by and only a short walk to the city center. We used the hotel parking, which was a few blocks away. Breakfast downstairs was pretty good, with fruit, eggs, pastries, Nutella, and very good cappuccino. It was a good stay for the price. I’d come back if the rate seemed reasonable.
