We spent two lovely nights at Castello di Compiano. It takes a little extra effort to get there, since it’s off the beaten track, but it’s worth it. The village of Campiano is charming, and the castle makes a good base for seeing other historic castles nearby. The staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was plentiful, and the restaurant served tasty local food. They also arranged an English-language private tour of the castle museums.

A lovely hotel and place, though it’s quite far off the beaten track. There’s a restaurant and bar, and you can use the pool for the day. It costs 34 euros per couple for a day. Worth a visit.

Staying in this castle has a real fairytale feel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are very friendly. There’s no WiFi in the rooms, and breakfast is pretty limited. You can book a private romantic room for an extra charge. Some people say it gets noisy. Early October might be a good time to stay, since there are hardly any visitors then.
