Agriturismo Aurea

Those sardines were sublime. We had a wonderful dinner, with excellent food that tasted especially homemade, and the service was good. The agriturismo is a beautiful place, with lots of greenery, a pool, and the restaurant in the middle of the grounds. It’s a bit of a drive from the S.S. 106, heading towards the hills on an unlit road, rather than being in the center of a well-known seaside town. We found it on Google, where the reviews leaned heavily towards five stars. We’re about 15 km away and had booked five days ahead. The staff served us, including a few waiters who seemed under the required age for table service, though the whole place has a rustic feel. We didn’t see the rooms, but I’d still give it five stars. The owners make extra virgin olive oil, but it had already run out months ago. The next batch will be available to buy in December 2025.

We’ve been coming to eat here for two years, and I love the pasta. The cooking is typical of Crucolese, with friendly, welcoming staff and affordable prices for the excellent quality. I’d go for the macaroni with ferretto, the ricotta and vegetable crepes, and Casaluro rosé. Goat is a must for the main course, but ask for it ahead of time, and book your table in advance too. There’s a pool as well. To finish, try the homemade blueberry or bay leaf liqueur. Even on a hot day, bring a shawl if you’re going in the evening, as it gets chilly.

Every year during my vacation, I return to enjoy the flavors of this land. The dishes are simple, but excellent, and everything from the pasta to the sauces is expertly made by hand. They always manage to surprise us with something new. Make sure to take home their lovely jams, olive oil, and sardines.

This family-run agriturismo gives you a real sense of the beauty of Calabria. It’s peaceful, surrounded by nature, and feels like home, with attentive staff and delicious local food that makes you feel looked after.
