We had one of my best holidays in Italy here, and I’d gladly come back. Falkensteiner Hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and in a wonderful area close to the sea. The atmosphere felt relaxing and luxurious, and our room was comfortable and well cared for. The all-inclusive food and drinks were delicious, with lots of variety throughout the day. The staff were friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. Everything went perfectly from arrival through departure. A big thank you to Salvatore mazzitelli. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a holiday in Calabria.

I originally came here just to see whether anyone else had run into the same issue with pool towels. Then I saw the review below from what I assume was a paid influencer, and wanted to set the record straight. That guest apparently got a welcome bag with a beach bag, pool towels, and treats in the room. Nothing like that was provided to me. The room towels can’t be taken to the pool, and when I asked where to get pool towels, they sent me to reception. There I was told I could buy one or rent one for 2 euros a day. I agreed to rent and asked to put it on the room, but was told I could only pay cash and leave a 20 euro deposit. That felt fishy. I asked about an ATM and was told it was back by the pool, so at that point I decided I could do without a towel. I’ve worked in hospitality for almost 20 years and I’m generally tolerant of local customs, but I’ve always tried to make things smooth for guests. A few alternatives: in a 5-star all-inclusive hotel, add the 2 euros per night to the stay and give everyone a towel. I doubt that small amount would deter guests at this price. Or let people charge the fee and deposit to their room, since you already have their information, ID, and credit card. If cash is required, put the ATM where guests need it. I was surprised because at Falkensteiner in Croatia there were plenty of pool towels around the pool at no extra charge, and I expected the same here. I’m also curious whether the staff get to enjoy local cuisine on the hotel grounds. I’m looking forward to trying the specialty restaurant tomorrow, but the buffet so far has been disappointing. I’ve had better meals in cruise ship crew messes. We’re in Italy, where people usually care about food, so it’s a letdown. I was surprised by pizza with french fries on top, though I understand the hotel seems to cater mainly to German guests, so perhaps they like the extra carbs. The hotel itself is clean and well maintained. The parks, pools, and playgrounds are magical and well equipped, with plenty to do. There’s a lovely walk through a pine forest to the beach, which is also clean and well kept, clearly by hotel staff. Big kudos to the Falkyland staff with the kids. They’re welcoming, and our son seems to really enjoy the program and company. The receptionists were very nice from the start, and other staff showed our son around while we checked in. It’s a nice hotel with lots of activities, welcoming staff, and a relaxed atmosphere. I’m not sure if I’m the only one bothered by the towel situation. I’m writing because paid influencer reviews with 50 photos could lead guests to expect a beach bag and pool towels in their room, only to be sent running around for 2 euros a day. Maybe someone can clarify how this works. Two stars are to balance what I see as misleading paid reviews. If my experience had matched the influencer’s, I’d give it five stars, and I wouldn’t have had to chase down pool towels. They can keep the sweets and beach bag, those are just extras to me. One other thing: I really like the water bottles provided. It’s a nice way to reduce plastic waste.

The front desk team were wonderfully helpful and welcoming. Before we arrived, they contacted us several times on Whatapp with advice on getting from the train station to the hotel, and offered to book tours or suggest things to see in Venice. They really wanted us to make the most of our time there. The property itself is absolutely beautiful.

Paola at reception was especially lovely, friendly, and helpful. Thank you, Paola, for making our stay even more enjoyable. The place was calm, clean, and welcoming, just right for a relaxing holiday. Our room was comfortable and well maintained, and the service was excellent. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back.

The gym was my one real gripe. It only had one bench and the closing time felt too early. I’d make it a 24-hour gym. Otherwise, I thought the stay was amazing. This place is a gem in a deserted area and great for a family trip. The water park is the best I’ve seen so far, even compared with Caribbean resorts. There’s loads for kids to do, including games, sports, activities, and a really good kids club. The food was amazing, especially if you like Italian and European choices. Some people complain that meal times are short, but I didn’t find it too bad, and the quality and range are top tier. From what I saw, the staff were friendly.
