Kristall

We were on a Just Go package tour at Hotel Kristall in Diano Marina. A couple of the staff were helpful and good, and evening drinks were included, though with restrictions. There were plenty of problems with the meals. The main courses were usually cold, and the food was mediocre overall: some days acceptable, other days the main course was mostly rubbish. Breakfast eggs were boiled far too long, leaving the yolks dark grey and both yolk and white dried out. I found an insect in my cereal one day and couldn’t face it after that. On the second-to-last day, someone found a live cockroach in their salad. Some of us went out for dinner the next evening. One chicken dish was still pink inside and uncooked. The coffee machine only gave out lukewarm coffee, whatever you chose. Dinner took at least 90 minutes, with 20 minutes for starters, 15 for mains and 10 for dessert. It felt like a waste of time, perhaps to leave less time at the free bar. When the hotel was full, the morning hot water was barely lukewarm. The red and white wine at dinner seemed diluted with sparkling water, giving it a strange taste, and the red wine was chilled instead of being at room temperature. The open bar was meant to run from 7 to 10 pm. Some of us wanted a quick beer at 7, but were told to go to dinner first, or found nobody at the bar. There were a couple of rats around the swimming pool. The air conditioning was switched off, so rooms were stuffy, but leaving the balcony door open let insects in. The bath screen seal was poor, and water ran onto the very slippery tiled floor. The cupboard and drawers were sticky and felt ready to fall apart if you weren’t careful.
