The apartment on the ground floor faced a neglected grassy courtyard, with broken deckchairs and chairs. It was also being used by stray cats as a litter box. I nearly stepped in excrement while crossing the grass, and early the next morning I saw a cat come by and do its business there. Near the bedroom entrance sat a large rotting bench and a pile of smelly, badly stacked junk. In the garden, a broken umbrella lay on the ground, its stand unusable. On arrival, we were also greeted by a large yellow plastic tarp covering guano or manure beneath a cage of quails that looked mangy and sickly. The owner told us the birds were harassed at night by large rats. The cage was close enough to the bedrooms for its smell to reach them. If dirt, clutter, and a lack of basic care and hygiene when coming and going from your room don’t bother you, and the owner’s rambling chatter is enough, this may suit you. Breakfast was nonexistent. It’s cheap, but I’d say don’t go, and some people would be better off finding another job. I’m not making this up. I’ll post the photo I took if needed.

The apartment was quiet and cozy, a good place to recharge after a tiring day, and we left completely satisfied. We came across this simple, informal farmhouse by chance, tucked between vineyards and hazelnut groves. The Piedmontese Langhe view is wonderful, and the owner is full of courtesy and kindness.

It’s a wonderfully simple B&B, where the owner welcomes and pampers you like an old friend. Out among vineyards and hazelnut groves, away from city lights and noise, you can take in the restful hills, perhaps with a glass of Dolcetto. The rustic setting brings back the simple pleasures of the countryside and the real spirit of a holiday.

We stayed at Agriturismo Binelli with our children and family, and the welcome was excellent, even during the Covid period. Prices were reasonable, too. The place is beautiful, surrounded by green hazelnut groves and vineyards, with a fantastic view across the Langhe hills.

The tasting menu is highly recommended. The Piedmontese food was excellent, and the wine list was nice. Staff were friendly, attentive, and informal, and the value was excellent. Bravo!
