Hotel Resort Le Vele

We liked it enough to extend our stay. Our van was 3.5m high and 7.5m long, and there was more than enough room in the caravan park. You can swim straight in the lake from the waterside site, and there’s a huge pool too. The showers and bathrooms were very clean. Free washing machines were available, but without a dryer or clothesline, the rain meant we couldn’t use them. Breakfast was great at just €10 per person, and all the staff were lovely and kind. We were a little wary because of earlier reviews, but Andrea, the manager, was really friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend staying here when you’re travelling to Lake Como. 10/10!

We’ve travelled for 20 years, and this was an extremely bad experience with this hotel. We booked a room through booking.com, then realized within a minute that it was too far from the city center for us. We had no car, and there were two girls travelling alone, so we preferred a hotel in the center. We cancelled just two minutes later, and the hotel accepted the cancellation. The booking was for two months later, so the hotel still had time to book the room again. Even so, booking.com told us that the hotel had to confirm the refund, and we politely asked them to send that confirmation by email and explained our situation. Mr.Luca, the chief, shouted at us, was unbearably rude and wouldn’t listen. I tried to explain that booking.com was holding the money and needed the hotel’s confirmation to refund it. He kept saying, “I don’t have your money, go and ask booking.com,” then blocked us on WhatsApp. He speaks a little English and comments on things he doesn’t understand. I’ve been visiting Italy since I was 20 and have never seen Italians behave so cruelly. Booking.com still has our money, but the hotel is the one stopping the refund by refusing to confirm it. Maybe next time they’d smile at us if we stayed there, but after this, it feels like they’ve stolen our money right in front of us. How shameful.

The location is lovely if you’re mainly looking to enjoy the lake beach. Bellagio, Varenna and Como are a bit farther away. I hadn’t realized when booking that this was a whole complex with a campsite, hotel and rental flats. Our room was modern, very spacious, clean and really nice, and Andrea was efficient and available. The one thing that could be improved is the breakfast.

Everything felt modern and clean, almost as if it were all brand new. Andrea gave us excellent service, and I can’t wait to come back, wake up to the birds singing and enjoy the quiet by the lake. This is easily one of the best campsites I’ve ever visited. I loved everything about it!
