The bed was clean, which was a relief, but the rooms, cleaning and breakfast really let the place down. Seeing the portraits, old writings, dedications, clippings and paintings that tell such an important story buried under inches of dust and cobwebs, with limescale-corroded taps, is a real shame. It used to receive praise, and I hope they can bring it back to life.

You could hear the rooster and the bell, and the shower, faucet and other fittings were rusty.

The local food was great, and the owner is one of a kind. The place took us by surprise, it felt like stepping into another time. I wish there were more places like it.
