Hotel Residence Maddalena

The pool is quite large, and the place is peaceful, tucked into greenery on the mountain above Tropea. It's only a few minutes' walk away. The property is showing its age and could use more maintenance, and the apartments feel a bit small. The shuttle runs at scheduled times and has room for only 8 people.

Everyone was friendly, and Drapia is a decent place to stay, but my experience was in a bungalow and it needs quite a bit of work. I paid very little, so I wasn't disappointed, though I'd have been upset if I'd spent more. Not one door closed properly, and even the flooring was poorly done. The bungalows don't seem fully up to code, with badly built mezzanines. There was no tennis court to speak of: the area is paved and not even level. The pool may have been good 5 or 6 years ago.

The sea is stunning, and Tropea is beautiful. I spent a week at the Maddalena Hotel, a quiet place surrounded by nature, but the staff's poor hygiene was my main complaint. The mattress covers and pillows were dirty. When we asked to have them changed, they said there was nothing they could do and that we still had to pay for cleaning. We paid, but left disappointed by their rudeness and lack of attention to cleanliness, which should come first. I definitely won't stay at the Maddalena Hotel again.

Set among greenery on the hillside, this excellent property has a range of accommodations and is 4 km from the stunning sea at Tropea. It also has a swimming pool and tennis court.
