The owner pointed us toward Fremo Cuncuna Rock, and the panoramic view there was stunning. We’d climbed Colle do Sampeyre on our bikes that morning, then stopped in for coffee and cake. The hot coffee was a lifesaver in the cold, and both the homemade carrot cake and Torta della Nonna were delicious. The Refugio has little decorations throughout and a pleasant terrace out front. A lovely, simple mountain spot.

Jacopo and Arianna made this a real highlight of our trip. We were bikepacking the Turino to Nice Rally route when thick fog rolled in one evening, so we spotted the Refugio and stopped. The new managers looked after us so warmly, and their fluent English made chatting easier than our broken Italian. Dinner was unforgettable, especially the best Pollenta I’ve ever had. Our suite and bathroom were warm and clean, and after a much-needed night in the master suite we woke to clear skies, a great breakfast, coffee, and more kindness. They also directed us to an incredible viewpoint just below the lodge. The price felt very fair for what we got. Grazie mille!

The food was good and the prices reasonable, but our experience was spoiled by a rude, unpleasant waiter. For a relaxing stop in the mountains, good cooking and pleasant interactions matter. The woman who spoke with us seemed extremely stressed and became rude in her manner, despite her hippie clothes.

Fresh food, really good, and such a lovely spirit about the place. The man running it is a brilliant cook and puts a lot of love into what he makes. I really enjoyed it here.
