Resort Il Mulino

The bed and shower were good, and the hotel is so close to the town center that the walk is practically nothing. For the comfort and location, I think it’s a fair option on the island and would recommend it. That said, our room at Il Mulino had a bad smell, which I believe came from the sewage system. Given that the island is designed for 4 thousand people and gets many times that number during high season, I can understand how it might happen. Breakfast could use more variety, especially savory food, and I’d expect fresh fruit juice at a 4-star hotel. The receptionist simply ignored my request to rent e-bikes, but I found better options in town. I mention them in one of my reviews. 😉

The hotel was clean and modern, though it felt a little sterile. I’d give the stay itself 4/5. Breakfast was disappointing, 1/5, unless you’re really into cakes, in which case maybe it just reaches 3/5. I left my Kindle in the room by accident and have tried contacting the hotel to get it back. I haven’t had a reply or seen any effort to send it to me. I know posting it might be a hassle, but it feels needlessly unhelpful. I run a B&B myself and we send things back to guests regularly. It’s not difficult.

The hotel felt unsafe and unwelcoming, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it. Though it appears central on a map, it’s tucked away in a distant corner. After dinner we had to make our way back along dark, empty streets with no lighting, which felt isolated and uncomfortable, especially at night. Our room was right by the entrance, with a completely transparent glass door. Opening the curtains meant anyone coming in could see straight into the room, including the bed. The bathroom was tiny, like an airplane toilet, and very uncomfortable. The Wi-Fi barely worked during our stay. When I asked to move rooms, the staff were rude and insisted that was exactly what I’d booked. There had been no warning at booking about the lack of privacy or the room’s position, and they showed no willingness to help.

With hotel choices limited on Favignana, this is a great base. The rooms have been newly remodeled, there’s a nice pool area, and breakfast is solid. You can walk into town too.
