Le Casasse

Even in November, when we stayed for two nights off-season, parking was easy and free behind the building. The apartment is centrally located, and we found it welcoming, clean, and comfortable. It’s on the fifth floor of an older building, with a lovely view of the sea. Everything was perfect for us. Recommended.

We stayed one night on May 1st, for the pilgrim's trail hike and a day at the beach. The apartment is on Vico Mendaro, in the pedestrian part of the village, just a few steps from the sea. There’s a small garden with a table and chairs, a clothesline, color TV, air conditioning, a hairdryer, and a washing machine. It was fine for one night, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The place is very basic when it comes to furnishings, dishes, and equipment. We were glad we didn’t need to cook. There were no tea towels, napkins, or paper towels, and the pots and pans were in poor condition. In the cupboard I found a dirty cup with old coffee marks when I got up to make tea, so I gave up. The room was also very humid. The bathroom had one hand soap dispenser by the sink, but no shampoo or shower gel. Check-in and checkout were handled in a small room at a nearby bar/restaurant. Parking is difficult in the area, and we weren’t told about private parking until we pressed for details. It cost €20 a day on top of the fee we’d already paid, which felt very expensive for the quality of the services. Highly not recommended!

We looked at the apartment and rejected it right away, so we didn’t spend even one night there. It didn’t match the website photos. The stairwell was extremely steep and dirty, and we found it unacceptable. The attic room had no storage or toilet, and the bed took up the entire space. We asked to switch apartments, but there weren’t any other accommodation options available. Unfortunately, the management of Le Casasse wouldn’t offer a partial refund. We don’t recommend this apartment.

The location is the one real plus, right on the seafront. Otherwise, the cleanliness needs work. The house is large but dim, with just one window and a French window, and it wasn’t clean at all. There was a stain under the toilet seat, the chairs were black with dust, and wiping the sink with toilet paper turned it black. There was only ONE roll of toilet paper, no cleaning spray, no dish towel or paper towels, and just a tiny tube with a little dish soap, as if we shouldn’t use much. Guests shouldn’t have to go out to buy oil, vinegar, salt, and, seriously, toilet paper. We only stayed one day, but this would be a big inconvenience for anyone there longer. The €20 parking was a 10-minute walk away, along a route that felt quite dangerous. I paid to park until 11:00 AM, but both the house and parking keys had to be returned to a box in another alley by that same time. If I’ve paid through 11, I should be able to use the parking until then, if not later. I don’t know the region well, but it felt like they were taking advantage of visitors.
