San Pietro Palace Hotel

The owners were there every day, and it was a real pleasure to meet such a sophisticated couple and their staff. The welcome was warm and helpful, and the rooms were elegant, comfortable, and clean. The hotel is right across from the beach and well placed for walking around Finale Ligure. Breakfast was delicious every day. What an incredible hotel.

The first of our two nights was the worst hotel night I've had in a long time. The place seems fairly good on the surface, but if something goes wrong, the friendly staff have their hands tied and probably can't help. Guests, if you want to sleep, I'd suggest going to bed with the electric system off. Forget the AC. Owners, please remember your customers are your business. Here's what happened. As soon as we checked in, we told the staff the AC in our room was loud. They tried to help but couldn't, and said they'd call an authorised mechanic. That afternoon we found out no mechanic was available and nothing could be done that night. It was hot outside, but we figured we'd switch the AC off and sleep without the noise. In the middle of the night, the ceiling light turned on by itself and woke us. We switched it off and went back to bed. About half an hour later, I woke to what sounded like a distant scream, thinking something had happened in the street. After a few minutes, I realised it was the noisy AC switching itself on. I turned it off, wondering what was going on. We were tired from a long journey and tried to sleep again. Around another 30 minutes later, the AC came on once more. This time I got dressed and went downstairs to ask the night portier for help. He offered to come look at the room, but our child was sleeping there and it was 3 in the morning. Instead, he switched the AC off from the central system. We went back to bed. About 30 minutes later, the ceiling light switched on again. I went downstairs angry, sad, and exhausted. The night portier had one solution: remove the card from its holder to cut all electricity to the room. Fine. By morning I was so tired and irritated that I asked to check out a night early. I wasn't asking for compensation, just to leave and not pay for the second night. I hadn't slept, the AC wasn't working properly, and this wasn't what we expected. But we had already paid for two nights, so I was told to wait for the manager. That led to a long, drawn-out discussion. The manager had to call the owners and wasn't authorised to refund us for leaving early. The owners refused to do anything. We were told, “We can’t see them at there hade been any errors in our system”. They weren't interested in refunding the second night, taking further action, or compensating us for getting no sleep the first night. The manager tried to find another room, but all the options were an obvious downgrade, and there was still no compensation if we moved. Eventually I gave up. I was too tired to keep arguing, and I didn't know Italian consumer rights well enough. We stayed the second night. The room was warm, the AC was switched off again from the central system by the night portier, and we kept the electricity off. At least we slept that night. The next morning, another staff member told me this wasn't the first time the central system had acted on its own. Thanks to all the staff we met. You did your best with the tools you had. A beautiful, clean hotel on the boulevard of Finale Liguri, with a perfect four-star room and all the amenities. The view from our room is in the picture. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Hamsa and Janni. Breakfast was very good and the coffee great. We'll certainly return.

Breakfast was delicious, and the staff serving it were so kind. We were there for a biking trip, and they made it easy to bring our mountain bikes; parking for our SUV was available too. The hotel is lovely and right by the beach, with really friendly service. We’ll definitely return. I can’t recommend it enough.
