Hotel Villa Laura

We got good value for the price. The staff were really kind and hospitable, and they accommodated us as vegetarians and another person in our party who was gluten free. Our clean rooms had been recently decorated and had great views. The area felt safe and had a nice vibe. There's a pleasant square within walking distance, with restaurants, cafés and shops. I was also told you can walk or take a bus to the old town, which isn't too far away.

I didn't feel safe here, and there was nothing to do. The staff were limited and not very nice. The rooms were terrible, with really hard beds, like lying on stone, and no air. The furniture was dilapidated, probably bought new in the 70s. Everything about the hotel felt grim.

Eating here was dire, and I really wouldn't recommend the hotel for its food. Most meals were cold, and when vegetables were served, they were cold too. Cold spinach on the plate is about as bad as it gets. On Christmas day we had a small chicken leg and chips, with no vegetables. Being vegetarian was difficult: soup was pasta in watery concoction, and dinner was a plate of lettuce, two cubes of rubbery cheese and what seemed like pretend chicken pieces, all cold and tasteless. The other guests were getting the same cold dinners. The hotel feels stuck in some time warp, though I couldn't say which period. We had a shower, but its headrest was broken, so the shower head just hung there.

The hotel is run down and tired, and it needs a lot of money spent to reach a decent standard. The staff try hard. The price reflects the condition, so it'll do if you're after a cheap stay.
