Le Stelline B&B

The place itself was clean, nice, and would suit a seaside holiday. But we chose it for our last two days in Italy because we wanted a fair price, access to Leonardo DaVinci airport, and an easy connection to Rome. That was a bad call. It’s in a small village outside Rome, on the outskirts of the Fumicino airport, and although the beach is nearby, the area is extremely isolated. Even with the booking paid in advance, you have to call or write ahead so someone will be there to let you in. We waited two hours at the door. There’s one bus stop 5 km away, with buses only twice a day. You might catch one if you’re lucky and can ask around in Italian, but it’s not something you can rely on. Getting in and out means using a car or taxi, which made the stay as expensive as a five-star hotel.

Mrs. Scilla was completely incompetent at managing guests. I called about ten days before the date I wanted and was told four times that there might be a room, but they didn’t have the schedule handy and I should try again the next day. No one answered the landline either. Eventually I reached Mrs. Scilla, who admitted she’d made a mistake and there was no availability. She excused herself by saying she had another job and couldn’t keep up with everything. Ridiculous.

If you like being close to nature, this sea-view B&B is a great fit. It’s near the Macchiagrande WWF oasis and just steps from the beach, where you can surf or kitesurf. The owner is friendly and happy to help with information or anything else.

We’ve spent years coming to Focene in the off-season, and each time at B&B Le Stelline we find a special feeling of peace and relaxation. Mrs. Scilla is exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and courteous.
