Rome Airport Hotel Fiumicino

The WhatsApp contact was genuinely useful, and the taxi showed up in the morning to collect me, so the service gets five stars from me. The place itself had a few frustrations. Despite the airport hotel name, it’s quite a way from the airport and sits in a somewhat odd area. They only serve breakfast, so you’ll have to order food in, and there’s no room service. Also, you have to insert your card in the wall after arriving to turn on the electricity. Nobody explained that, and for a while I thought nothing worked. Not the best feeling.

The elevator was tiny, and the rooms felt warmer than I’d like. At the desk, the staff were simply mean to us, even though we hadn’t been hostile toward anyone. When I searched for a room, I entered the right number of guests, but once we arrived the hotel still required us to book another room because we had twin babies. The man at the counter told the woman in Italian that it was fine since they were only babies, apparently thinking we couldn’t understand, but she insisted we take another room. There are plenty of other options, so choose somewhere else.

The room was spacious and clean apart from a musty smell, and being near the airport was convenient. Still, after what happened at check-in, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We booked for Aug 6-7 and reached the hotel at midnight, planning to wait there for 5-6 hours rather than at the airport. Our booking was for four, but there were six of us. We misunderstood the policy, partly because in the USA that arrangement is okay for us, and we weren’t planning to sleep there. We understand the hotel’s rule, but the front desk man repeatedly yelled at and scolded us. It felt scary and threatening, and there was no need to explain it that way. We were tired and didn’t want to keep arguing, so we booked a second room. He asked about breakfast; we said no because we weren’t staying long, and he started yelling again that we still couldn’t all use one room. He kept repeating the same point even after we were already booking another room. The first room cost about $356 and had four beds. It was very spacious and could easily have fit six, which made the extra booking feel like a scam. The last-minute second room had one bed and cost about $170. The next morning I showered, and the showerhead holder was loose. Turning on the water made the head swing around, splashing water everywhere and leaving a slippery floor. That was dangerous. The man was nice when we checked out the following morning, but the whole thing was traumatizing.

At the Honor Happy hour, they ran out of both food and beer with an hour still to go. When I asked the front desk for a manager, the response was weak and she seemed out of her depth. In the room, the toilet leaked; housekeeping knew and had wiped it up, then left the wet towel in the shower. The bathroom floor was soaked. The hair dryer didn’t work, and the desk never sent a working replacement. I also met someone in the elevator who had the same wet-floor problem. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
