Iris Inn

The room was large, clean and quiet, and the bathroom was big and clean too. The air conditioning worked fine. The location is handy, near the train station and about 500 m on foot from the main street. Breakfast is at a café two minutes away, with coffee and a brioche or croissant. When I arrived on a very hot day, I waited 15 minutes outside the building and nobody answered the bell. A girl who lives there eventually opened the main entrance for me.

The location is a real plus, close enough to the city center that you can leave the car behind. The shared spaces also make a nice first impression, with attention to detail. In our room, though, the closet drawer had dust and hair, the bottom sheet was stained, and the pillows were too flat. The bathroom is missing tiles near the washing machine, and the walls could use painting. It would also help if the manager were there when guests check out. We stayed May 16th and 17th. These are meant as constructive suggestions, and I hope the manager takes them into account.

We were quoted one price, then charged extra supplements that hadn’t been expected or explained. We’d booked through outside people, and the reservation became complicated. When I wrote to the owners suggesting they take online bookings instead of using people outside the business, they replied rudely and impolitely. It felt as if they were treating us like people asking for freebies, instead of trying to solve the issue or speak more considerately to guests who had chosen to stay there. We planned to stay five days, but left after two, and nobody found a solution. They kept all our money and even wanted us out of the room at 11:00 AM, although we’d paid through Saturday. I’d avoid this place. Better to spend a little more and avoid scams and rip-offs. They should learn to treat people civilly, which matters most in a business.

The central location is convenient, and the B&B has the basics with comfortable rooms. My disappointment was with the bar serving breakfast. I explained that for health reasons I couldn’t eat carbohydrates and asked for something else, perhaps juice or an orange, but they refused and said, “You can have a drink and a croissant.” I understand this wasn’t the B&B owner’s fault, but it may help other guests with the same issue to know. Perhaps arranging it in advance with the manager would help.
